A common question for new parents is, when should their child first visit the dentist?
Generally, children should see the dentist after their third birthday as an introduction to the office and to run a primary examination of their teeth and gums. We may clean your child's teeth with topical fluoride and go over a proper oral hygiene routine that parents can administer at home.
During your first visit the dentist will:
Examine your mouth, teeth and gums.
Evaluate adverse habits like thumb sucking.
Check to see if you need Fluoride.
Teach you about cleaning your teeth and gums.
Suggest a schedule for regular dental visits.
Before bringing your child to our Richmond Hill or Midtown Toronto dental office, we suggest that parents prepare their child for the visit by reading books, talking about the dentist and your own dental experiences. We're excited to meet the newest member of your family!
