Dental Crowns & Bridges
If your tooth has been damaged or decayed to the point that a filling is not enough, a dental crown may be the solution to restoring your tooth's strength, shape and structure.
A dental crown is a covering or cap that is placed over the damaged tooth. Before fitting the crown and shaping the tooth, your dentist will remove any decay to ensure the best fit for the crown. The dental crown or cap is then cemented in place to protect the tooth for years to come. Dental Crowns can also be used to reinforce a tooth that has been badly cracked or to seal a tooth after root canal therapy.
A dental bridge is a device that uses adjacent teeth as anchors to hold an artificial tooth in the place of one or more missing teeth to avoid complications such as bone loss and shifting teeth. Crowns and Bridges are often grouped together because the adjacent teeth must be crowned in order to increase their strength and prepare them to be used as anchors for the bridge.
The procedure of creating and fitting a Bridge involves multiple dental visits, but is often the most effective way to protect your smile from damage above and beyond a simple missing tooth.
