Wisdom Tooth Extraction
When a wisdom tooth appears to be erupting on an angle, and threatens to effect the alignment of other teeth, we call it an "Impacted Wisdom Tooth" and it needs to be removed before causing complications like crowding, injury and infection.
During wisdom tooth removal patients are given local anesthesia, intravenous sedation, or general anesthesia to ensure our patient's maximum comfort. Once the tooth is removed, the extraction site will be sealed with dissolving stitches that will go away on their own after roughly one week.
Patients will need to arrange for someone to drive them home after surgery as they will still be feeling the effects of the anesthetic. Patients are advised to eat soft foods to allow the jaw to rest as much as possible. Apply a cold compress to reduce swelling and take the prescribed pain medication to deal with discomfort. Your dentist will guide you through proper brushing and oral hygiene routines to prevent infection and ensure proper healing.
